I used to be so disenchanted to learn that LIU Publish will freeze new admissions to its music training program [“Music ed students sound off,” News, Dec. 2]. Lengthy Island has few faculty packages for individuals who need to main within the arts, and now there will likely be one much less.
Within the Patchogue-Medford College District, the place I taught elementary music for 34 years, the district reduce elementary music courses in grades 1-3 from two courses every week to at least one within the early 2000s, and people courses haven’t been restored.
A highschool music instructor I spoke with final week stated that latest auditions for the annual musical had been less than par and curiosity has waned.
When the humanities are taken away or not taught correctly on the elementary faculty stage, all music packages endure when these college students attain highschool. You will need to attain the “entire baby” all through faculty.
We’re taking away the enjoyment of music on the elementary stage, and now, with faculty music packages dwindling, I concern that we’re placing our proficient college students at an awesome drawback by discouraging them from presumably pursuing a profession in music.

Proudly owning as much as voting for ‘the opposite man’
This issues a reader’s response to my Nov. 17 letter, “Don’t mischaracterize who Republicans are,” in response to Lane Filler’s Nov. 11 op-ed, “GOP election lies come residence to roost.”
The reader questioned my braveness [“Own up to voting for ‘the other guy,’ ” Letters, Nov. 23]. I assumed I did “personal it” once I wrote that “the persona and abrasiveness of the person in cost shouldn’t be disqualifying.”
So let me be clear: With out moving into the talk on unproven allegations or duties, nothing former President Donald Trump has completed is disqualifying for me.
In 2016, in impact, I voted for then-Choose Neil Gorsuch over then-Chief Choose Merrick Garland. Thank goodness that labored out.
