Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are celebrating their first wedding anniversary on Saturday 17 July, and may be looking forward to the relaxation of restrictions to mark the occasion with friends and family.

The couple had a secret, small wedding, as they battled with constantly changing COVID-19 guidelines in the summer of 2020.

Their grand plans of a London wedding with a reception at Buckingham Palace were scaled back to Windsor, where just 20 guests saw them get married in the Royal Chapel of All Saints.

A lot has already changed and the Royal Family Mozzi married into is looking different even just a year on from their nuptials.

The biggest change in the Royal Family over the last year came with the death of Prince Philip in April.

The 99-year-old was Beatrice’s grandfather, and husband Mozzi was there at the funeral alongside her to offer his support as the family mourned.

Although Philip had been retired from royal duties for many years, stepping back in 2017, he was still a leader among the family members, and was admired by all, as shown by the tributes that were given to him from his descendants.

Beatrice did not give her own public tribute, but her sister Eugenie shared a touching message saying: “I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy.

“I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day.⁣”

Although the Royal Family had their world turned upside down by the death of Philip, and could not mourn together in the normal way because of COVID-19 restrictions, there has been good news too.

Beatrice and Mozzi are now an aunt and uncle, as Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed baby August back in February.

Eugenie and Brooksbank have been staying in Windsor, so it’s not known how often Beatrice may have been able to carry out auntie duties.

As well as baby August, two other royal babies also made an appearance in 2021.

Zara Tindall, one of Beatrice’s cousins, welcomed Lucas Philip in March, her third child with husband Mike.

Over in the US, another of Beatrice’s cousins, Prince Harry, became a dad for the second time when Meghan, his wife, gave birth to their daughter Lilibet in June.

Beatrice is also expecting herself, with the palace confirming her pregnancy news in May. She is due to give birth in the Autumn.

There’s already been speculation about the baby, as Beatrice was spotted carrying a pink toy bunny after a meal with friends in Mayfair.

She walked along with the soft toy by her side, but put it behind her back when she spotted the cameras.

Beatrice’s husband Mozzi already has a son, Christopher Woolf, known as Wolfie, from his former relationship with Dara Huang.

The royal is sure to have been stepping up as step mum before she married Mozzi, and is now just months away from welcoming one of her own to add to the family.

The baby will be the Queen’s 12th great-grandchild.
