Gwen Stefani’s Two Wedding Dresses Were Full of Special Symbols and Meanings

Congratulations are in order for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.

Eight months after the country music star got down on one knee and asked the No Doubt leading lady to marry him, the couple finally celebrated their big day this weekend. On Saturday, Blake and Gwen officially became husband and wife in an intimate ceremony on Blake’s Oklahoma ranch in Tishomingo. The wedding, officiated by The Voice host Carson Daly, was held in a chapel Blake reportedly built for the special occasion.

After privately celebrating with their family and friends over the holiday weekend, the couple announced the happy news on Monday via Instagram. Now, more details are coming to light including the sweet meaning behind Gwen’s wedding dresses. According to People, the “Hollaback Girl” singer worked with fashion designer Vera Wang to create two custom bridal gowns, each incorporating symbols representing Blake and her three sons — Kingston, Zuma and Apollo — with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. For the ceremony, Gwen wore a “lily white silk georgette gown with a sweetheart plunging neckline, cut away back, fitted bodice and high low hand tumbled tulle skirt.” The 51-year-old bride completed the look with a “white chapel-length veil,” which had the names of Blake, Gwen and her sons hand embroidered on the edge of it.

After saying “I do,” she changed into a white strapless mini dress, which included two hand-sewn love birds symbolizing Gwen and Blake. The mini dress also had three baby love birds incorporated into the design to represent Gwen’s kids.

Throughout Blake and Gwen’s five-year relationship, Blake has been actively present in raising Gwen’s boys. Before proposing, the 45-year-old “God’s Country” artist asked for their permission first. Ahead of the wedding, an insider told People that the three boys would very much be part of the nuptials. “Gwen’s boys will be very involved. Blake is a great extra dad and very close with the boys.”
